WHAT TO WEAR
The cardinal rule of family dressing for portraits is simple: choose items for the entire family as if you were creating one outfit. If all of your choices were on one person, would the result be pleasing? A handy trick for those who are hesitant to break away from the monochrome madness is to choose one patterned item (for example a print dress for your daughter) and then select the rest of the family’s clothing from colors within that pattern. But if you enjoy patterns and colors, I love seeing an eclectic mix that harmonizes well-as long as it fits your family’s personality!
Please don’t stress about what to wear. the most important thing is that everyone is comfortable and that they dress as they normally would and keep it simple. While pretty much anything is fine as long as it expresses who you truly are, I do have a few recommendations.
—-Solids always work well, but don’t be afraid to include patterns and textures.
—-Layering is great and can allow for outfit changes.
—-Accessories (hats, necklaces, scarves, etc.) are fun and always encouraged.
—-You can never go wrong with simple and natural; for example, bare feet, swim suit, jeans, a plain t-shirt.
—-Colorful is awesome. Think coordinating, not matchy.
—-Stay away from large logos and characters. Unique graphics that define your spouse or your child could be fun.
