. a worthy cause

Fellow photographer, Deb Schwedhelm is raising funds for Tanzania Children | The Foundation For Tomorrow. She will be riding a bike and photographing along the 400 mile trip from Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean to bring awareness to this cause. This cause is not only extremely worthy but really strikes a chord personally with me for the location of the children it empowers. Kenya (and a little corner of Tanzania) was my first travel adventure after deciding I wanted to be a photographer back in 1989. [Please excuse the dust on the above images as these are scans from some of my first images on Kodak Plus X and Fujichrome 100 D film].

Africa has always had a special place in my heart since taking this trip with my mom, “Mama Africa” who has visited Africa at least a dozen times. She guided many trips there just as her father did before her. It was always my dream to do a photo workshop there while giving back to the native people who are so vibrant and full of life.

It’s causes like Deb is working for that connect us all in some way. The love of photography, people and special places always tends to brings a community of passionate and enlightened people together to help others and create awareness for those in need.

Thank you Deb for giving so much to the photographic community and to the community as a whole. Please take the time to check out the Foundation and consider supporting Deb.
