being recognized

“They didn’t recognize me,” I repeat.
He stops in turn, my hand still on his arm.
“It is because they have never seen you,” he says. “I would recognize you anywhere.”

01kochriddlek-hightideswim0121 07kochriddlek-mysunfish0297 09kochriddlek_beachboy064This has pretty much been me my entire life.  Until recently. Not long ago I realized that it’s really not so terrible and not so scary to allow my photography to be seen by others.

It is a great honor and even though it feels better than peddling my work around, I know in my heart the recognition that comes my way is because of all the hard work I have been doing to put my work out there. It is a lot of sweat and tears to get your work seen and recognized and don’t let anyone tell you that if you make really good work you can sit back and let the recognition roll in because that’s a bunch of ignorant rubbish.

I’ve only recently discovered that I’ve been making award winning work for years but since I just started publishing it and letting others see it, I am just finding out.

koch_kristianne_02tiputapassdiveSo don’t do what I’ve done for the past 25 years and keep it all to yourself. Your work is valid and worthy and we all want to see it!!
