.seeking the perfect tree

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure dost thou bring me!
For ev’ry year the Christmas tree,
Brings to us all both joy and glee.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure dost thou bring me!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are thy branches!
Not only green when summer’s here
But in the coldest time of year.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are thy branches!

We ventured out for the perfect Christmas tree several weeks ago. It was an unusually cold day and the hunt was brief. We found it at our local empty lot turned Christmas Tree Farm. Nothing scenic about it. But it’s just as good as going to a real field to find a standing tree to the kids. They both agreed on the same tree so off we went to have the base fitted on. The guy cut the base off clean but when he put it in the stand it stood at a 75 degree angle. So we took it home to “fix” it. Ahhh, the perfect leaning tree. It’s so whimsical.

The process of picking out the tree, bringing it home and decorating it with lights and ornaments is nostalgic nonetheless. It brings back fond memories of my sisters’ and my joy of spending the evening with family decorating and listening to music, dad getting upset about the way the tree doesn’t fit in the stand and that all the lights are tangled up and burned out. It is just like that at our house now and I love it.
