I love hanging out at home on the weekends. Of course I always love a trip somewhere but once in awhile it’s nice to stay home and see what transpires. This particular weekend was very creative for everyone. I ended up making a fishing pole out of a stick, some line and a lure (even though Merrik has a nice fishing pole and reel) so Merrik and Maliea could fish in a bucket in the front yard. I also was asked to make a blue pirate eye patch and a pink one. Both of them ended up being adorned with jewels and stickers.
All of this was happening while I was creating a bevy of photography panels for the growing demand of my artwork and while Jim was in the kitchen baking. One of Jim’s clients is Thermador and he was the proud recipient of one of Sur La Table’s wonderful cookbooks recently. We have had a surfeit of bananas from our own banana tree so when they finally overripened it was time to mash them up and bake them into something yummy. I baked banana bread the other day because it was fast and easy. Jim, the top chef that he is, took on the Banana Cream Whoopie Pies from So Sweet!
I have a difficult time getting my kids to model for anything. I am not very good at manipulating them into posing for my ideas or for getting all dressed up for me to take their pictures. I just want to photograph what’s naturally happening with my family. I am also not very good at getting them to give me the oh so arty “blank stare” that I love so much. My kids don’t have that “natural” look in them. They always make the funniest faces-that’s just them.
