I really like where Merrik is going to Kindergarten. The place has a comfortable, low-key feel to it. Even his teacher reflects that down-to-earth nuance that I pick up on when I am there.
Today was the last day for a couple of weeks. It’s going to be odd to not take him every day. He’s a very academic kid and really been enjoying his basketball practice [photos to be blogged soon] and last week we even camped out at the San Clemente State Beach which is literally right behind the school and walked Merrik to class the next morning.
I enjoy going down the hill to the south end of town to get there. It takes me in the opposite direction of where I usually need to go so it’s a nice change of pace.
These pictures are exactly what the place feels like to me. Well worn by generations of kids and bright with creativity. I also get the sense that the teachers really care about the kids. I am new to this school thing as a mom so I have years to discover all the skeletons in the system but being the wallflower that I am I hope to avoid as much of the politics and enjoy the discovery, enlightenment and affinity associated with my new role.
