We went to get our tree last week [our earliest start to Christmas EVER] at the “Dumbo” circus tent tree lot down the hill from our house. No snow, no walk out in the field, pick your own and cut it down. Just a plain ol’ walk into the empty parking lot on El Camino Real with trees standing up inside a tent and decide if you want the $50 Douglas Fir or the $75 Noble. I really liked the sparsely branched Noble fir trees for $100 but I already have a hard enough time spending $75 on a tree that is going to die. Makes me sad but the kids don’t know that.
They were as a high as kites running through the aisles of trees and Merrik made the final call on the tree of choice. The greatest joy is getting it home so the Lionel Christmas train can be set up underneath. Merrik received the train as a gift for his first Christmas and he hasn’t looked back. Now Maliea is hooked too and they fight over the remote control that plays Jingle Bells, a train whistle, Santa saying “Merry Christmas” and makes the train stop, go or reverse. Hours of entertainment-and loud music.
If you absolutely need to see how excited the kids are about all this you’ll have to watch this slide show I made. I LOVE this time of year.
