I had such a great time meeting up at The Camp with a past client from my photography consulting days. Kyle Monk is an amazing photographer finding his way in the world of commercial and editorial photography. I helped him with his initial portfolio right out of college and even designed and built his first website. He’s been busy working as an assistant and shooting for his own clients up in San Francisco and has recently relocated back down in Southern California.
His work has such a fun edge and sense of humor. It’s smart and quirky and laughs at life. He explained to me that he wants to convey a Curb Your Enthusiasm-like episode in a single image. What I think makes his images so successful is that they are a collaborative process. I think it is so important to allow your work to be influenced, adjusted and transformed by working with another person.
I need more of this type of work to help push my images to the next level.
